While major athletes look utterly cool about 95% of the time, they have awkward moments, just like everyone. And fortunately for us, there’s no shortage of talented photographers watching their every move on the field, on the running track, and the training ground.
Sleepyhead?
Sadly, under-17 pole vault competitions don’t normally make major news headlines. Junior athletics competitions are very important, but they just don’t have the flair of games like soccer, basketball, and rugby. Still, that’s no reason for the athletes to fall asleep while on the job!
In the picture, Australian pole vaulting athlete Lauren Hyde-Cooling was snapped while crossing the bar during an under-17 sports competition. The mean sports photographer made it look like she was sleepy, but rest assured: that’s not a real yawn! In fact, Hyde-Cooling is such a dedicated athlete she’s set to compete at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Planning Ahead Doesn’t Always Work
It’s super unfair because being an athlete should be all about planning. You train hard, try to be aware of every possible scenario, and develop certain tricks and tactics to beat your opponents. But in sports and life, not all plans turn out the way we imagined.
In this perfectly-timed sports photo, the Polish pole vaulting athlete Kamila Przybyla is inadvertently representing every single major athlete that saw a plan fail. You can see it in her face: it’s like the floor was suddenly removed from beneath her feet, and she’s falling into the endless pit of a plan-gone-awry.
Peacocky Panther
We love it when a cheerleading performance accurately honors a certain team. But while these ladies work on the sidelines to support the Carolina Panthers, their routine makes us think more of the magnificent peacock than the sneaky panther.
Either way, this well-timed snap makes for an incredible picture that seems to put the worlds of sports and art together. Also, we don’t think this was an accident at all: these cheerleaders look like they’re using some sort of special hair product so they can achieve this stunning visual effect.
