The Unique Way The Queen Begins Her Mornings
Commoners might be content to have their phone alarm wake them up in the morning. Not Queen Elizabeth, though. She begins her mornings with 15 minutes of live bagpipe music streaming from under her window at 9 a.m. There’s even a man whose job it is to provide this form of entertainment.
The Piper of the Sovereign is a real position in the royal household that’s been filled since 1843. The current one is Pipe Major David Rodgers, who is a member of the Irish Guards. He fulfills his duty whether the queen stays at Buckingham Palace or her other estates, except for Sandringham.
