William Howard Taft & Helen Louise Herron “Nellie” Taft – 1886

During William Howard Taft’s presidential term, Helen Herron Taft was the First Lady of the United States. They were married long before they obtained the official titles. They are said to have tied the knot at Helen’s parents’ house in Cincinnati.

On the day of their nuptials in June 1886, Helen seems to have worn a beautiful dress with puffed-up short sleeves. Not a lot is available from their special day as it was a long time ago. During their 44 years of marriage, the couple brought three children to the world.
