The Hole Truth and Nothing But
When the earth says “enough,” you get this jaw-dropping sinkhole in Guatemala City. Captured from above, this massive crater appeared after Hurricane Agatha in 2010, thanks to a destructive combo of heavy rainfall, a collapsed sewer system, and hidden underground voids. The result? A 60-foot-wide hole that swallowed a factory and part of a street, leaving the area looking like the set of a sci-fi film.
It’s not every day you see an entire piece of urban landscape vanish into the ground. While Mother Nature made her mark here in a dramatic way, let’s hope the city’s next big project involves filling this surprise feature.
