Michel Roux – IPF
French restaurateur Michel Roux opened the Mayfair-based establishment Le Gavroche in partnership with his brother Albert. It soon became one of the three eateries in Britain that earned Michelin stars. They also opened The Waterside Inn that boasted of the first food establishment based outside France to main a three-star rating for more than two decades.
Once the pair split their businesses, he ended up with the Waterside Inn, which he soon bequeathed to his son Alain. Roux died at his Bray residence in March 2020, aged 78. He had a history of battling the rare respiratory illness idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
