A Clockwork Orange (1971)

When American film director and producer Stanley Kubrick came up with A Clockwork Orange in 1971, he would ban his own movie two years later. Despite initially defending his work, the decision came in the wake of incessant protests due to the film’s depiction of physical violence.

Despite the movie receiving a certificate from the British Board of Film Censorship, the predatory behavior shown in it directly resulted in several violent incidents. By 1973, Kubrick and his family were the targets of death threats and the filmmaker thus teamed up with Warner Bros in 1974 to stop the movie’s circulation and distribution entirely.
