The Netherlands national team is renowned for producing top-quality footballers and being the originator of the Total Football philosophy. They are also renowned for being the best team never to win the FIFA World Cup. This was in 1974 when they lost in the final to West Germany despite being lauded as the best team at the tournament.
They also made the final of the following tournament and made another appearance at the 2010 competition, although they lost both. They have won the European Championships in 1988, though, with their team comprising Marco Van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, and Ruud Gullit.
