Camila Giorgi, 30 – Macerata, Italy
Camila Giorgi’s good looks are hard to miss, but you’re missing the bigger picture if that’s all you know her for. After all, in 2021, she defeated former world number one Karolina Pliskova to win the National Bank Open. Growing up, Giorgi’s initial interest in gymnastics quickly shifted to tennis, and having a father who doubled as a coach helped.
However, through training with renowned coach Nick Bollettieri, she improved. As a result, Giorgi’s improvement to being ranked number one in Italian tennis in 2022 isn’t surprising. However, a grand slam title remains evasive as her 2018 run to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon remains her best result.
