Lynne McGranger may not be as widely successful as actors on the bug screen. Still, she’s left quite a mark on lovers of Australian television. In 2014, she was tapped as the longest-serving actress to play the same character on an Australian television show. Not bad for a performer who began her career with minor roles in “Bye Bye Birdie” and “West Side Story.”

Cast members of long-running serials or soap operas hardly ever know how long a show could run when they first sign on. So McGranger may not have known she’d still be playing Irene Roberts on “Home and Away” in 2022 when she started in 1993.
