The United Kingdom
Also known as His Majesty’s Armed Forces, the British Armed Forces are comprised of ground units, airforce, and navy, with almost 194K active personnel, including about 37K Gurkhas as well. When it comes to defense expenses, the UK ranks fourth only behind America, China, and India.
Interestingly, the British Army has always served the British people, although the state itself had changed its name twice since 1707. Having fought numerous wars and battles, including both the world wars, it serves as one of the oldest military units on the globe. Even some of its laws and traditions date centuries back.
