Hello Darkness My Old Friend
If you’re going to spend time in the Antarctic, you better be prepared to do a lot of it in almost total darkness. During the winter months, the earth’s rotation and tilt mean that the sun dips below the horizon and then stays there until summer comes along.
Between the equinoxes, you’ll be facing harsh temperatures, blasting winds, and of course, the void left behind by the absence of sunlight. Thus, it is no surprise that many researchers head home during this period to resupply stocks and get away from the climate. But there are a few brave souls who stay and face this challenging time!
