While the United States is among the world’s biggest countries, it doesn’t beat the size of Antarctica. The cold continent covers an area of about 5.4 million square miles, including its islands, and that is more than one-and-a-half times the size of America.

It is bigger than most countries, but the fascinating thing is that it is generally uninhabited despite its vastness. Most people would consider it a waste of perfectly good land to live in or develop, but the truth is no one can comfortably reside there unless they think they can thrive in the extreme conditions.
