Although Julie Christie started her career on TV, she gained international recognition for the Swinging Sixties film Darling, for which she received an Oscar award. The iconic actress was one of the most in-demand stars at the time, but she shocked her fans when she made the decision to turn her back on Hollywood to lead a quiet life in the ’70s.
Christie grew more interested in animal rights and political activism in the next decades, although she continued to appear in several more films. The dark blue-eyed star has, indeed, become selective in the projects she accepts, the last of which was in 2012 for The Company You Keep.
