The war veteran journalist has covered international events in the Gulf and Balkan wars as a senior news correspondent. Having retired in 2003 from BBC, she now prefers to work freelance with BBC Radio 4 on From Our Own Correspondent. For her services to journalism, she was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
