A Ticking Time Bomb Beneath Greenland
People lose things all the time; it’s almost a no-brainer to some. But losing something as significant as a nuclear bomb, now that’s something else. That’s what happened in a 1968 accident involving an American bomber aircraft, which crashed at sea of ice in Greenland after catching fire mid-air.
The bomber was carrying four bombs that were recovered afterward…or so everyone thought. Decades later, some declassified documents asserted that one was left behind at the crash site. If true, then there’s quite literally a ticking time bomb somewhere in Greenland’s sea bed.
