Queen Elizabeth When She Was A “Princess Auto Mechanic”
Before wearing the crown, Queen Elizabeth spent her late teens as a “Princess Auto Mechanic.” That’s what the press called her while serving for the military during World War II. Despite protests from her father, King George, she trained as a mechanic and joined the women’s Auxilliary Territorial Service.
And when the war ended with the Allies winning, she joined her people in the streets as they celebrated V-E Day (Victory in Europe). Queen Elizabeth, who we bet still knows her way around a car engine, will mark the 76th anniversary of that event on May 8, 2021.
