Amanda Blake, 60, 1929-1989
The original ‘A Star is Born’ actress Amanda Blake came a long way from being a telephone operator, a job that earned her just about $40 a week. The screen siren was initially spotted by folks at MGM, and soon they called her the next Greer Garson!
In the following years, Amanda signed up for unique roles in films like ‘Miss Robin Crusoe,’ ‘The Glass Slipper,’ and ‘About Mrs. Leslie.’ Eventually, the actress took a hiatus from the life of stardom before making a comeback with ‘The Boost’ for one last time in 1988.
