John Wayne, 72, 1907-1979
Nicknamed ‘Duke’ John Wayne was an acclaimed actor widely regarded to rank among the Hollywood greats, with his impressive number of over 140 films he starred in, stamping the leading man’s iconic status. Wayne was particularly famous for his roles in ‘Western’ movies, including ‘True Grit,’ which was a commercial success.
After battling stomach cancer for a while, Wayne passed on in 1979, with his last public appearance being at the 51st Annual Academy Awards that same year. Seven children survive the legend, and we look forward to seeing him on-screen one last time in the upcoming documentary, ‘This is War Bond.’
