Why Camilla’s Royal Title Doesn’t Match Her Husband’s

When a woman marries into the royal family, it’s customary that they get the feminine equivalent of their husbands’ titles. That’s why Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex when she wed Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. That’s also how the late Lady Diana became Princess of Wales when she married Prince Charles.

However, Camilla Parker-Bowles was never given the same title even after the Prince of Wales got a divorce from Princess Diana and married her in 2005. Instead, she sported the feminine version of her husband’s secondary title, making her the Duchess of Cornwall instead of being called a Princess, since the title is strongly associated with Diana.
