Rambo (2008)

While Sylvester Stallone’s return as Rambo in 2008 was eagerly awaited by audiences in Burma, they had to jump through several hoops to enjoy the action extravaganza. Not taking kindly to the way Burma’s soldiers were depicted in the film, the country’s authorities proceeded to ban the film’s local screening and DVD distributions.

At the time of its release, Burma’s then-ruling party prohibited DVD vendors in the country from distributing copies to customers. Despite their best efforts, the local police were unable to stop underground trading of DVDs of the film by action aficionados who risked jail time to catch a glimpse of their favorite star in action.
