Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Fifty Shades of Grey, similar to the EL James novels it’s based on, was immediately banned in several countries across the globe following its premiere. Being one of the most eagerly-awaited literary adaptations since the Da Vinci Code, the film has been one of the most successful cinema projects in recent years, with worldwide earnings exceeding $560 million.
While the film was a much “watered down” version compared to the explicit storytelling of the novels, it was still deemed too steamy for moviegoers. As a result, a long list of countries closed their doors on its screening, including the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.
