The Tomato Test
Despite feeling secure with his booby-trapped box, Russell still felt intimidated by the porch thieves thanks to the talking to he’d received from the cops. He decided to make a few changes to test how dangerous his invention was.
After meticulously inspecting the container, he placed the bait—a tomato—in it and tested it. But the tomato remained unscathed. Russell found it amusing that a tomato would be more resilient than a human, according to the police’s narrative.
Yet Russell still tried to find other ways to safeguard his packages. In an interview, he expressed his frustration and worry about the frequency of such incidents.
