Fortunate Honeymooners
Among the photos that Bernie Palmer Ellis took and sold to the Underwood & Underwood company is this snap of a young couple speaking with another Titanic passenger. The pair was identified as Mr. & Mrs. George A. Harder, newlyweds from Brooklyn who were on their honeymoon when disaster struck.
The woman who has her back towards Ellis is believed to be Mrs. Charles M. Hayes. Her husband, a railway executive, died during the shipwreck. This explains why she appears to be in tears in the photo. Fortunately, their two daughters reached the Carpathia safely along with their mother.
