Rodney Agatupu Anoaʻi (Yokozuna) – Pulmonary Edema
Rodney Agatupu Anoaʻi, professionally known as Yokozuna, made a mark in the wrestling industry. His screen name is a reference to the prestigious rank in sumo wrestling, a sport that originated in Japan. While the WWE star was often thought of as someone who originated from the Land of the Rising Sun, he actually was a Samoan.
He died, however, while still active in the industry in 2000 while Anoa’i was at the wrestling European tour. While at the hotel, the 34-year-old succumbed to pulmonary edema, which is the occurrence of excessive fluid in the lungs. It took 12 years before he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
