The sitcom Ugly Betty, which starred America Ferrera, was a feel-good sitcom that tells the story of how a woman struggled to make a mark in the industry because of her looks that don’t conform to society’s beauty standards. At the helm of the show was Silvio Horta, who struggled to cope with the pressures in the face of success.

The screenwriter had been battling depression before he took his own life at a hotel in January 2020. Horta, who was just 45 at the time of his death, had been seeking treatment prior to the end of his life, as revealed by his friends he contacted a few weeks before.
