Antarctica is truly a land of opposites. Not only is it covered by ice, but it sports one of the world’s largest and most active volcanos!
Mount Erebus, which is named after the Greek god of darkness, is the southernmost fire mountain on earth, and it sports a lava lake that always boils and shoots out elements such as potassium and sodium. It’s also scorching and profoundly deep. With temperatures reaching one thousand seven hundred degrees Fahrenheit and a perceived depth of miles, we wouldn’t recommend a swim in there!
