Antarctica Has Pretty Low Biodiversity
When it comes to biodiversity, there is not much in the continent covered with snow and water. It means that there is not enough energy to support several other types of organisms. Given the temperatures, the region’s ecosystems cannot help large vertebrate predators develop long food chains.
This might be one reason why life on the continent is not possible as there is a lack of natural land bridges— no wonder why no one ever set foot in the region before its discovery in the early-eighteenth century by a group of scientists.
