What’s Left Of A $6 Billion Missile Defense Complex
It’s no secret that the United States spends a lot of money on its military endeavors. What’s not common knowledge, though, is that its government once spent almost $6 billion on a complex in Nekoma, North Dakota. It was built to defend the country from Russian missiles.
Officially called the Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex, it stands abandoned today after the project was shut down in the ‘70s. Its silos, which resemble pyramids, still attract visitors. None of them can get close to the structures, though, and can only take photos from the gate.
