Calamity Jane
Martha Jane Cannary, famously known as Calamity Jane, was a well-known frontierswoman and sharpshooter who grew famous for her association with Wild Bill Hickok, a renowned gunslinger and stagecoach driver. She was a tough and fearless woman who faced many challenges from a young age and habitually wore men’s attire.
Calamity Jane was also interestingly known for exhibiting compassion towards others, especially the sick and needy. She worked various jobs, such as a dishwasher, cook, waitress, nurse, and ox team driver, to provide for her large family. Jane was also involved in several campaigns against Native Americans and claimed to have been christened “Calamity Jane” during a skirmish in Wyoming.
