Noah (2014)
When Darren Aronofsky’s biblical drama Noah, starring Russell Crowe and Emma Watson, hit theaters in 2014, the Muslim community was up in arms. According to countries like Malaysia, UAE, Indonesia, Qatar, and Bahrain, the film contradicts the teachings of Islam and Christianity.
Additionally, Aronofsky also broke an Islamic taboo when he depicted the patriarch-prophet Noah in the Paramount film. While many other animations and productions have told the story in the past, Noah’s face had always remained hidden for religious sensitivity. The film, which reportedly cost lots of money to make ($125 million), was met with silent criticism even at its test screening in the United States.
