The Hunger Games (2012)
Just like the novels it was based on, the first installment of The Hunger Games saga faced bans due to offensive language, insensitivity, violence, and being satanic/occult. In 2014, the series came under fire once again when protesters in Thailand resorted to using the film’s three-finger hand symbol against the government which resulted in at least seven arrests.
With a $152.5 million paycheck on its opening weekend in March 2012, The Hunger Games was a massive hit straight off the bat. Blowing away its expected figures and forecasts, the film has raked in close to $700 million worldwide during its nine-year run.
