Jules and Jim (1962)
When Jules and Jim got its release date in 1962, it was immediately shunned by religious circles, with the Catholic Legion of Decency going as far as to ban it. This meant that any Catholic who saw the movie would, in fact, be committing a sin.
Set around the time of the first World War, Jules and Jim is a popular French drama produced, directed, and written by François Truffaut. In Italy, the film was completely outlawed from viewing in public, while French audiences were mandated to be at least 18 years or older to qualify for a seat in the theaters.
