The Iceberg That Sank The Unsinkable
When you look at the iceberg from a distance, it’s almost hard to believe that something so small could sink the unsinkable. And as it turns out, the Titanic might have survived its scrape with the glacial mass had things happened slightly different.
According to the Smithsonian, the iceberg sliced open the hull of five watertight compartments causing the ship’s front section to be breached. It’s speculated that if only two of the compartments were opened, the Titanic might have stayed afloat instead of sinking beneath the waves at 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912.
