The 2016 Disney movie Queen of Katwe tells the story of a Ugandan girl named Phiona Mutesi, who learned to play chess and overcame life’s difficulties. The biopic starred Lupita Nyong’o, known for her Black Panther credit, Madina Nalwanga, and David Oyelowo.
Meanwhile, Nikita Pearl Waligwa played Gloria, Phiona’s close friend. However, the young star met her demise in February 2020 when she was just 15 because of a brain tumor. She was first diagnosed in 2016 and sought medication, ultimately given a go-signal to work the following year. However, in 2019, another mass was found.
