Thinning and Melting Glaciers
In recent years, high temperatures and low snowfall have led to numerous glaciers retreating in the Antarctic and the rest of the world. Besides that, such retreats leave rocky debris and sometimes might also cause catastrophic flooding. But the biggest concern for us should be the shrinking and thinning of Pine Island Glacier (PIG) in West Africa as it is well-grounded below sea level.
According to latest studies, a total of eighty-seven percent of the glaciers in the Antarctic are receding. There are chances that it could also lead to species invasions that can disrupt the ecosystem as well.
