Rising Sea levels and Melting Glaciers
Over the last few decades, the Pine Island Glacier’s flow has been speeding, and it covers almost one-fourth of the region’s ice loss. Reportedly, in 2020, a mega iceberg that was the size of Washington broke off. Scientists suggest that this is likely to affect the sea levels, and the Glacier’s future under the rapid climate change remains unclear.
If all the ice covering the continent were to melt, the sea level would rise by more than seventy meters, meaning that almost all the world’s coastal cities would be underwater!
