They Only Attend School Until Eighth Grade
As we’ve discovered, Amish schools differ from regular schools, especially in terms of language. Most Amish attend private schools, with an estimated 10% only attending public schools. The education is also very basic and parochial. The schools focus primarily on language, reading, writing, and maths.
They also focus on Amish history and vocational training, which aligns precisely with Amish community functions. The most astounding thing is that they finish school after the eighth grade, a law passed in 1972 permitting Amish children to complete their schooling at 14 or 15. Afterward, most go straight into the workforce.
