Give Unto The President What Belongs to the President
Although they acknowledge and obey national law, Amish people don’t get involved in national issues—even as far as not voting in the elections. It’s not that they have anything against politics or politicians either. It’s because they believe in only two kingdoms, material and spiritual.
They, however, also believe that the Amish should focus primarily on the spiritual realm and leave men to deal with their own issues. In 2004, George W. Bush attempted to gain support from the Amish by visiting Lancaster County and Holmes County. That year 43% of the Amish community registered to vote, although only 13% did vote, with most going to Bush.
