Forgive And Forget
As a religious community, the Amish are also extremely pacifist. Their society promotes forgiveness and condemns any kind of violence, so they are against the death penalty. They also don’t serve in the military due to its links to fighting, death, and brutality.
This stems from the fact that they believe God is most happy when they work in harmony with nature and other people. This is within most Ordnung ruling, and with their staunch discipline, it means that violence is punishable by shunning until repentance or forgiveness is given.
