Music is Forbidden, Singing Is Not
It’s unclear how they live with it, but the Amish are not allowed to own any musical instruments. Some may have a harmonica, but guitars and pianos are out of the question. Some communities aren’t even allowed to have music with instruments in them, meaning no pop music, iTunes, Spotify, or Deezer.
Despite this, they still love music, especially singing, with most Amish folks singing for up to two hours a day. These are mostly German hymns and faith songs from the church. There is also a small group who are fond of country music, most likely due to the Christian link some country musicians have.
