The Passenger Aircraft That Was Shot Out Of The Sky…By Mistake
Depending on what time of the year it is, there could be around 8,000 to 20,000 aircraft flying in the skies at any given moment. Still, it’s quite suspicious that an American warship mistook one commercial flight for a fighter jet in the ‘80s. The incident led to Iran Air Flight 655 being shot out of the sky, killing the 290 people aboard it.
As expected, the costly mistake wasn’t taken lightly by the Iranian government and the families of those who died. What probably infuriated them more is the findings of a subsequent investigation that showed how the American military misreported some details about the event.
