The Wall That Divided The World
Here we have the now-fallen Berlin Wall getting a much-needed repair after being damaged by inclement weather in 1962. At the time, the wall was still relatively new, having been constructed just a year prior. It would go on to divide Berlin and, by extension, the rest of the world until the late ‘80s.
Erected primarily to keep Western “fascists” out of socialist East Germany, it was demolished in 1989, and Berlin was united again. The event was celebrated by millions of people, with many coming to chip away at the barrier themselves.
